ABOUT ME
HELLO, I'M CATHERINE
With a passion for relationships, family dynamics, and children’s emotional well-being, I have been a registered counsellor for 22 years. I follow a holistic approach in adult counselling, integrating creative therapeutic techniques to support growth, self-awareness, and healing.
When working with children, I use a child-led play therapy approach, where play becomes the language through which children express themselves and creativity serves as a powerful tool for healing and emotional development. Additionally, I work with a Therapy Dog, Finn, who accompanies and supports some children on their Play Therapy journey.
I also offer creative supervision and enjoy assisting teachers in finding practical and creative solutions to navigate the challenges and demands of the classroom environment.

HELLO, I'M FINN THE THERAPY DOG
Finn completed his training in December 2022 with the assistance of Caring Friends Therapy Dogs. He successfully passed his exam with flying colours! He continues his weekly training sessions to ensure he stays sharp and understands his responsibility. He really enjoys learning.
INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT FINN:
- He adores his orange smiley ball – it’s his favourite toy.
- Finn delights in long walks, even in the rain.
- Despite his size, he believes he is a lap dog.
- His preferred storybook is "The Grumpasaurus" although he is far from being one!
- Naturally, Finn loves his doggy treats.
- Finn has a 3-year-old "sister," Dakota, a black German Shepard, and a 1-year-old "baby brother," Mangi, a chocolate lab - they too go to school!
BENEFITS OF THERAPY DOGS:
- Research indicates that therapy dog programs can reduce children's anxiety, boost self-esteem, and enhance motivation, leading to improved overall well-being that aids learning.
- They promote social interaction, increase willingness to try new activities and enhance verbal communication skills.
- Therapy dogs also help children develop empathy and appropriate social skills.
- Utilizing therapy dogs promotes relaxation in children, with research showing that cortisol levels in children who spend time with therapy dogs weekly are significantly lower compared to those who only engage in relaxation exercises. Plus, dogs make the sessions much more enjoyable!
